- As the FKF election saga continues, Former FKF President Sam Nyamweya has decided that he will host a convention themed ‘the second and final liberation’! He is setting out on a quest to reclaim and save the beautiful game of football in Kenya from imminent collapse’ today.
“The convention is open to all football tips stakeholders in Kenya, including but not limited to current and former football players and their representatives, football club administrators, FKF branch and sub-branch officials, coaches, referees, media, sports medics, partners and sponsors,” Nyamweya said.
Nyamweya among other top seat aspirants did not tender their candidacy for the upcoming election in what they say the FKF election board cleared Nick Mwendwa as the only contestant for the presidency. Is this what he is set out to liberate football from; are there any other issues we are yet to see? With both the county and National FKF polls planned to go down on March 14th and 27th respectively, we are yet still to hear a lot from Nyamweya’s liberation.
“Now that the delegates have decided, we will leave the board with the job of setting election dates and ensure everything is run accordingly. We are committed to ensuring the beautiful game continues to develop in our country,” said Mwendwa. Does Kenya football need liberation? This quest of salvation comes just after Sport Dispute Tribunal (SDT) canceled the February polls. Although Nyamweya has been a critic of the current officials of the FKF, mainly his successor Nick Mwendwa, and his convention comes just before the federation carries its repeat polls in March.
