Preview and Prediction
The FA Cup 2020 comes down to the most crucial moment this season, the final, which will be held this weekend. The two Londoners, Arsenal and Chelsea will be squaring off in Wembley for the oldest football championship in history. What makes this year’s edition special is both finalists are led by young managers who aim for their first title in their career, Mikel Arteta and Frank Lampard. This is officially the battle of London with young commanders in charge on both sides.
The teams’ previous matches
The Gunners’s positive trend in Premier League endured as they defeated Watford, which were struggling to stay in the top flight. Pierre Aubameyang’s brace and Kieran Tierney’s strike helped them seal a win while Watford only managed to respond twice by Troy Deeney’s penalty and Danny Wellbeck’s goal.
Meanwhile, The Blues secured one spot in Champions League next season after crushing Wolverhampton 2-0. Mason Mount was the man of the match with his goal from a free kick and assist for Olivier Giroud’s goal. Such is enough for keeping their place in the league of the European elites.
Mikel Arteta will still be opting for 3-4-3 formation. Pierre Aubameyang is the key man upfront alongside Nicolas Pepe and Alexandre Lacazette. Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos will be supporting them in the midfield. The missing of Hector Bellerin and Skhodran Mustafi will be something Arteta worry about as they are the vital figures in his current starting IX. Not to mention the absence of Callum Chambers, Bernd Leno, Gabriel Martinelli, Mesut Ozil, Matteo Guendozi and Pablo Mari earlier, which has drained their squad’s potential lately. Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Rob Holding are likely to ones to get the nod in the line-up.
Frank Lampard, on the other hand, has been quite adaptable with the formation. He can choose either 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 or 3-4-2-1. Unfortunately, Willian, NGolo Kante and Billy Gilmour are ruled out. This nephew of Harry Redknapp will probably pick Mason Mount or Ross Barkley to play behind the targetman alongside Christian Pulisic. Meanwhile, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic or Robin Loftus-Creek are the best option in the midfield.
Players to watch
Pierre Aubameyang has been the vital frontman for The Gunners with his 22 goals and 3 assists in Premier League. Some other notable men to watch in Wembley later are Nicolas Pepe, Granit Xhaka and the goalie Emiliano Martinez.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s top performers to watch are the American Christian Pulisic who has netted nine goals and made four assists in EPL this season, the left wing back, Marcos Alonso and the captain Cesar Azpilicueta. Another key figure when it comes to penalty shots later is the veteran Wilfredo Caballero.
Arsenal vs Chelsea Prediction
Arsenal’s and Mikel Arteta’s future will be depending on their result in this final. Considering their position on the mid table, FA Cup is their last hope to get through to the continental competition next season. However, Lampard will never let the chance to clinch a title slip away for the sake of his own future too in Stamford Bridge. The clash will be tight as always and possibly decided by the penalties. The Blues have slightly better chance to pick up a victory in Wembley.
This match is expected to be even. Chelsea is backed to win higher at 5/4 whereas Arsenal is only priced to win at 12/5. The odds for the draw result are at 13/5.
