Harambee Stars prospect linton Maina registered his first bundesliga assist for Hannover 96 in a 3-2 loss to Bayer Leverkusen on 12th Saturday.
Berlin-born Maina who had only just featured once in the Bundesliga – a four-minute cameo appearance against Bayern Munich in mid-March – was handed only his second game after being brought in for Sebastian Maier in the 63rd minute at the Bay Arena.
Deep in added time, Maina skipped his marker Karim Bellarabi and brought in a low cross to the penalty area handing Austrian striker Martin Harnik with the simplest of tap-ins to close the game at 3-2.
Maina came on eight minutes after Hannover 96 had conceded a third goal from Julian Brandt who topped up on a first half brace from Lucas Alario. His assist came three minutes after Hannover had managed to pull one back through Niclas Fullkrug. Hannover ended the season placed 13th in the 18-team log.
