Preview and Prediction
La Dea’s wonderful campaign this season is about to continue. They have reached quarterfinals and will be taking on PSG, the French Champions in the past few years. It will be the perfect time to prove the world that they are ready to raise their level to be among the elites. All they need to do is to beat Neymar and Co this week after sealing one spot in Champions League again next season by finishing on the third of the table.
The teams’ previous matches
Papu Gomez and Co’s unbeaten run in 19 games consecutively came to an end in their home turf. They had to bitterly bow to their nearest rival, Inter Milan after losing 0-2 in the last game of Serie A. Ashley Young became their worst nightmare as he contributed well in the match. He provided an assist for Danilo D’Ambrosio and then scored himself afterwards. He also made a crucial block on Robin Gosens’ shot at the near post to prevent his team from conceding.
Meanwhile, PSG was only able to win over Lyon 6-5 by penalties in the Coup de La Ligue after a goalless draw in a normal time plus extra time. Thomas Tuchel’s men were frustrated throughout the game because of Les Gones’ solid defence and the impressive form of Anthony Lopes. Unfortunately, he could not endure his great form in the shootout.
Possible Game Plan
Gian Gasperini tends to deploy the fluid 3-4-3 with the transition to 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-1-2. Great physical fitness and versatility play important role in his system. However, due to Josip Illicic’s absence for personal reason and Pierluigi Gollini plus Jose Luis Palomino’s injury, the Colombian duo, Duvan Zapata or Luis Muriel is the main option with Papu Gomez and Mario Pasalic or Ruslan Malinovsky behind them. La Dea’s flexible formation will encounter Tuchel’s one which is often transformed during the game when necessary. The former Dortmund boss normally opts for 4-3-3 which can change to 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 with Neymar, Icardi and Pablo Sarabia as the key frontmen as Angel Di Maria and Kylian Mbappe are on the sideline.
Possible Line-up and Missing players
Atalanta (3-4-2-1) – Marco Sportiello; Mattia Caldara, Burat Djimsiti, Rafael Toloi; Robin Gosens, Hans Hateboer, Remo Freuler, Marten De Roon; Ruslan Malinovsky, Alejandro Gomez; Luis Muriel.
Missing player: Jose Luis Palomino, Pierluigi Gollini, Josip Illicic.
PSG (4-3-3) – Keylor Navas; Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Juan Bernat, Thilo Kehrer; Leandro Paredes, Ander Herrera, Idrissa Gueye; Neymar, Pablo Sarabia, Mauro Icardi.
Missing player: Angel Di Maria, Kylian Mbappe, Marco Verrati
Atalanta vs PSG Prediction
Both teams will be involved in this potentially even match. PSG might be facing the same solid defence as they did against Lyon here. This is something they need to be careful. Atalanta’s attacking line has been quite daunting too, especially if the Colombian frontmen duet are in the starting IX. The game could end in a tie and eventually in penalty shootout. PSG’s mentality might be the key to help them advance to the semifinal.
None is the favourite here. Atalanta are priced to win at 3.45, whereas PSG’s win market is at 2.00. The odds for the draw result are at the value of 3.90.
