Barcelona vs Leganes Preview
There is no time to relax for Barcelona, if they intend to defend their domestic title as their archrival Real Madrid will take over their position once they lose points. With only two-point gap between them, only constant win could save their campaign. This early week, Lionel Messi and Co will be welcoming another team in the relegation zone, Leganes. They should have no difficulty in securing a win here.
Both teams’ latest news
Barcelona began their return with a convincing result after hammering Mallorca 4-0 last week. Arturo Vidal’s powerful header marked the beginning of their demolition towards the host. Not long after, Martin Braithwaite bagged his first goal for Blaugrana after taking advantage of Messi’s assist. The Messiah also contributed the last two goals scored by Jordi Alba and himself.
Leganes, on the other hand, were beaten 1-2 while hosting Real Valladolid last week. They were two goals behind already by Enes Unal and Ruben Alcaraz before they could reply by Oscar Rodriguez on the 84th minute.
Quique Setien will certainly employ the regular 4-3-3 formation. As Suarez is fully recovered, he is likely to play him along with Messi and Griezmann as Barca’s best trident this season. When they are all back on the pitch, the big win will be expected.
His counterpart, Javier Aguirre should consider deploying 5-4-1 or 5-3-2 instead of 4-4-2 if he aims for stealing at least one point in Camp Nou. Oscar Rodriguez are likely to be given a role as a lone striker or play alongside Guido Carillo at the front. The layered defence wall can potentially frustrate Messi and Co so that they would have to rely on long shot or set pieces to score.
Players to watch
Blaugrana’s top performers are Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. Yet, the latter one might not be playing for ninety minutes and Martin Braithwaite can be brought on. It would be interesting to see him facing off his former club. The Danish international seems to be doing quite well as one of the Barca’s trio frontmen and he could be scoring again this time.
The former Atletico Madrid and Mexico national team boss, Javier Aguirre, counts on very few stars in his squad as their two notable forwards, Youssef En-Nesyri and Martin Braithwaite, had been sold to Sevilla and Barcelona earlier this year. Thus, some key figures left in the team now are only Oscar Rodriguez who has netted eight goals and the Portuguese left wing, Kevin Rodrigues.
The home side will certainly come out as a victor eventually if Aguirre’s men do not improve their form. In fact, they need to do so to rescue their future in La Liga next season. Otherwise, Leganes will be sloping to the bottom of the table considering the positive trend on Espanyol, their contender in the red zone. The result will depend on how Kenneth Omerou and Co perform later.
Setien’s men are the clear favourite in this game. They are projected to win at 1.15 while Leganes’ win market is only at 18.00. The draw result is at the value of 8.20.
