Preview and Prediction
The wonderful season for Die Roeten just ended several weeks ago after securing their second treble winners in a decade. This weekend, they will begin the 2020/21 campaign in Bundesliga by hosting Schalke 04. Bayern’s typically sensible yet effective transfer policy shall continue to strengthen their squad to retain their glory this season, while Schalke’s objective is more on the improvement of their last season’s result and aiming for one spot in the Europa League.
The teams’ updated news
Bayern has been pretty quiet this summer apart from signing Leroy Sane from Manchester City and Schalke’s Alexander Nubel for free. They have not released any key players despite the rumor of selling Thiago Alcantara to Liverpool.
The Royal Blues have set to loan Weston MacKennie to Juventus, plus Bernard Tekpetey and Jonas Carls to Ludogerets and Vittoria Guimares. They also released Daniel Caligiuri, Alexander Nubel and Pablo Insua this summer. Despite losing many key figures in the team, they only signed Hertha Berlin’s Vedad Ibisevic for free. Schalke prefers to recall their loanees such as Mark Uth, Sebastian Rudy and Ralf Fahrmann.
Hans Flick has been confident with his offensive 4-2-3-1 formation. The quarter on the attacking side, Serge Gnarby, Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane and Lewandowski are likely to be opted again in the line-up.
His counterpart Davis Wagner will probably opt for 5-4-1 to employ defensive stance to hold against Bayern’s deadly attack. Mark Uth should earn his spot in the starting IX as the main frontman, while Benito Raman and Armine Harit will be supporting from both sides. Vedad Ibisevic and Ahmed Kutucu could come off the bench to break the deadlock. Unfortunately, Salif Sane and Omar Mascarell are ruled out due to their injury here.
Players to watch
Bayern will still be relying on Thomas Muller, the top assist provider in Europe alongside Messi last season. Some other notable men to watch are Serge Gnarby, Leroy Sane and Robert Lewandowski.
Schalke’s probable top performers this season are Benito Raman, Suat Serdar, their forward who was loaned to Koln last season, Mark Uth and Armin Harit.
Bayern vs Schalke Prediction
Bayern’s chance to seal their first win at home is absolutely much bigger than the visiting side. Their superior quality on each line shall help them dismantle any of their contenders without much difficulty. Unless Suat Serdar and Co could frustrate them and prevent themselves from conceding, a win for the home side seems definite.
Bayern is the clear favorite and priced to win much higher at 1.20 whereas David Wagner’s men are only projected to win at 20.00. The odds for a draw result are only at 9.70.
