Preview and Prediction
The new season of Bundesliga is starting this weekend. Dortmund still has a huge ambition to force Bayern out of their domestic throne, which they have retained for far too long. This could be another chance to try again, though it seems harder than last season considering Die Roeten’s more solid form under Hans Flick. However, there is no harm of giving another shot for better result. If Marco Reus and Co seriously plan to topple their Bavarian contender, then a constant positive results are expected, which means it all begins on matchday one while hosting another tough rival, Gladbach.
Both teams’ latest news
Die Borussen seems to be less active in the current transfer window than last season. Yet, they still managed to capture one well known name on a free transfer, the Belgian international Thomas Munier, who will fill in the post of Achraf Hakimi who decided to move to Inter Milan. Dortmund also signed Birmigham’s Jude Bellingham and Emre Can permanently, welcomed Real Madrid loanee Reinier and released Leonardo Balerdi on loan to Marseille plus sold Omar Toprak to Bremen. Meanwhile, Andre Schuerlle decided to retire early, while their former young star, Mario Gotze did not get a contact extension.
Meanwhile, Gladbach are preparing the new season by making several signings such as the former Hertha Berlin, Inter and Newcastle man Valentino Lazaro and RB Leipzig’s Hannes Wolf on loan plus the young American wing back Joe Scally from New York FC to provide more options in the squad for the upcoming Champions League fixtures.
The former Nice boss, Lucien Favre, will be sticking to the three-defender system with 3-4-3 or 3-4-1-2. Erling Haaland is the targetman supported by Jadon Sancho and Thorgan Hazard or Marco Reus. In the midfield, Axel Witsel and Emre Can are likely to be the anchor of their attack. Their starting IX will not be affected by the absence of Dan Axel-Zagadou, Marcel Schmelzer and Mateu Morey.
Meanwhile, Marco Rose tends to employ various formations from 4-3-1-2 with the transition to 4-1-4-1 or 4-4-2. The French duo Marcus Thuram and Alessane Plea are expected to bring on their last season’s impressive form this year. Unfortunately, Valentino Lazaro’s and Didier Zakaria’s chance to be on the pitch here is small due to their injury
Players to watch
The Norwegian star, Erling Haaland should be ready to step up as the main scorer and the key frontman. He has all the potential to compete Robert Lewandowski for the golden boots this season. Some other key figures to watch are surely Jadon Sancho, Marco Reus and the versatile wingback Raphael Guerrero.
On the visitor’s side, their key men are Marcus Thuram and the former Nice forward Alessane Plea plus the Swiss international goalie Yann Sommer. Another vital figure on the team is the Algerian Remy Bensebaini.
The clash should be considerably tough. Both teams are equally on the same level and have potentials to defeat each other. It might be way too early but they could be the title challengers of the season. Yet, here on the opening round, the home side could eventually secure a win with one-goal difference.
Dortmund is the favourite in this match, according to the punters as they are priced to win at 1.60. Gladbach’s win market is only at 4.90 whereas the draw result is at 4.35.
