Brazil defender Dani Alves has been ruled out of the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia. The 35-year-old suffered a knee injury while on duty with French Ligue 1 club Paris Saint Germain last week and has now been confirmed out of the tournament.
Brazil Football Federation said on Friday that it would be impossible for the former Barcelona right back to be called for friendlies, preparations and even the World Cup, since the injury will keep him out for up to three weeks.
“It is impossible to call Dani Alves for the period of preparation, friendlies and, consequently, the World Cup,” Brazil Federation said in a statement seen by Sportika Team.
Alves’ injury comes at a time when his teammate at both club and country Naymar Junior is facing a race against time to get fit following a more similar injury he suffered two months ago.
Insiders say Neymar is more likely to play at the World Cup 2018.
