City lawyer defends Raila against ‘neglect’ of Conjestina Achieng

Nairobi based flamboyant lawyer Donald Kipkorir has defended Opposition leader Raila Odinga against claims of neglecting plight of former Women International Boxing Federation (WIBF) middleweight champion Conjestina Achieng.

Raila found himself on the receiving end of the wrath of Kenyans after Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko flew Achieng to Nairobi for treatment and commencement of rehabilitation on Friday, November 2.

In a tweet seen by, on Saturday, November 3, the lawyer known to be Raila’s fierce supporter said the former prime minister was among the first people to run to the rescue of the boxer through wife Ida Odinga, when the champion sank into mental health challenges in 2011.

“Some years ago, when Conjestina Achieng went off the rail, Yvonne Khamati asked me that we help her. We assisted her and later when she became unwell again I asked Silas Jakakimba and Mama Ida that we help her and we did. To blame Raila Odinga for her situation is malevolent,” said Kipkorir.

Kenyans online bashed Raila and leaders from Nyanza for being selfish and insensitive of the former national star who hailed from the region they represented leaving her to the mercy of Sonko who was situated 400kms away Achieng’s Gem, Siaya home.
