It was a perfect debut for Kenyan trio Mary Kinuthia, Christine Nafula and Terry Engesha for Dalhem IF as the Swedish side hammered Hällbybrunn IF 8-2 on Saturday.
The three made the start for the Division 2 side and their presence was felt right away with Engesha scoring four in quick succession to hand Dalhem a 4-0 lead by the 25th minute.
Engesha, right from scoring a beauty against Rwanda in the just-ended Cecafa Women’s Championship, then turned provider.
She weaved through the Hällbybrunn defence to set up compatriot Kinuthia to make it 5-0 before the break.
Kinuthia picked up from where she’d left after the breather, scoring her second of the match in the 50th minute.
Hällbybrunn pulled one back three minutes later but Kinuthia replied immediately, finishing off a fine Rosita Eliasson through ball to complete her hat-trick.
Eliasson then joined the scoring party, netting Dalhem’s eighth before Hällbybrunn snatched a second to wrap up proceedings.
After several trials abroad by Kenyan players, the three finally land a professionally contract in Europe.
They become the first to do so since former Kenya women’s national team captain Doreen Nabirwe suited up for Germany side FC Cologne in the 2013/14 season.
