Preview and Prediction
Matchday 29 of La Liga will be crucial for Eibar. Their campaign in the top flight is quite fine but it does not mean that their position is already safe from the relegation threat. Fabian Orellana and Co still have two points margin from the red zone. Their remaining ten games will be decisive ones for the future. However, the next outing will not easy as they are meeting Athletic Bilbao, which also chase European spot next season.
The teams’ previous matches
Eibar suffered an inevitable defeat against Real Madrid last weekend. Despite playing well in the second half and could score one by Pedro Bigas, they already conceded three goals at the first half by Toni Kroos, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo.
Their counterpart, Athletic Bilbao wasted the opportunity to snatch a victory while hosting Atletico Madrid. They were involved in a hard-fought game and held 1-1. Iker Muniain opened the scored sheet but their lead only last for two minutes before Diego Costa responded with his long-awaited goal.
Jose Mendilibar has been employing several formations, mainly 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-4-1. In this game against Bilbao which also counts on physical approach and often play wide while attacking, he could opt for 4-4-2 or 4-3-2-1. The 36-year old striker Charles will be the lone striker supported by Takeshi Inui and Fabian Orellana. In the midfield, Edu Exposito, Gonzalo Escalante and Pedro Leon will become the first layer of their defence as well as helping out building the counter attack.
Gaizka Garitano tends to be in favour of 4-2-3-1 for the outing against the lower position. Inaki Williams is the number one forward. He will gain support from Iker Muniain as the number ten, the former Atletico Madrid man, Raul Garcia and Ibai Gomez on both sides. Unfortunately, Yuri and Asier Villalibre are ruled out for this game as they both are still injured.
Players to watch
Eibar’s top performers this season are the former Celta Vigo man, Fabian Orellana, who has netted seven goals and made six assists, the defender Pedro Bigas and the left wing back Cote. Another name to watch is the Japanese international Takeshi Inui.
Meanwhile, Bilbao has always been counting on their local talents in the team. Their current key figures are Inaki Williams, Iker Muniain and Andre Capa. Another notable one is the former Atletico Madrid midfielder, Raul Garcia with nine goals and one assist.
Eibar vs Bilbao Prediction
Raul Garcia and Co should never let the chance to win slip away again and this game offer them such opportunity for securing three points. Their attacking lines are obliged to improve their finishing touch so that they could maximise their shots on goal. Considering the home side’s poor form, a narrow win for the visitor is more likely.
This upcoming game is expected to be even despite the difference on the table. The host is projected to win at 3.15, whereas Bilbao’s odds to win are slightly higher at 2.35. The odds for the draw result are at the value of 3.00.
