Bundesliga matchday 27 this weekend will be wrapped up by a clash of FC Koln, the team on the mid table, and Fortuna Duessedorf, which is currently sinking at the 16th in the standings. The latter one certainly aims for a victory to save their campaign this season, while for Jonas Hector and Co, they have a mission show their consistency so that Koln could climb on a higher position and hopefully, qualify to European League next season. It may be an uneven fixture but Duesseldorf are definitely not expecting another loss and endanger their future.
The teams’ previous matches
Koln seemed to be one of the unfortunate teams last weekend when Bundesliga finally resumed. They were held in a 2-2 draw while taking on Mainz 05 despite having two-goal lead. Mark Uth’s penalty broke their dead lock and Florian Kainz’s strike doubled the lead. However, Taiwo Awoniyi’s and Pierre Kunde’s goal denied their prospective three points.
Meanwhile, Rouwen Hennings and Co were also held by the team at the bottom of the standings, Paderborn in a goalless draw. They were unlucky to secure a win last weekend despite the fact that they were dominating the game and had three shots denied by the bar and the post.
Markus Grisdol seems to be in favour of 4-2-3-1 formation. He relies on the former Hoffenheim and Schalke front man, Mark Uth and Florian Kainz, the Colombian John Cordoba and the experienced midfielder Jonas Hector. Grisdol’s tactical approach is an offensive football with long balls, crossings and long shots. Luckily, only the defender Rafael Czichos will be absent for this upcoming fixture.
As for Duesseldorf, the former Manchester City man in mid 1990s, Uwe Rosler tends to deploy a pragmatic formation like 5-3-2 with the transition to 3-5-2. Keenan Karaman and Rouwen Hennings will be the duo forward supported by Erick Thommy, Kevin Stoger and the Kosovo international Valon Berisha. Sadly, two key figures, the goalie Zack Steffen and experienced defender Oliver Fink, will be sidelined for this game.
Players to watch
In Koln, the current top performers are Mark Uth with five goals and four assists, their top scorer, John Cordoba who has bagged 10 goals this season, Jonas Hector and Florian Kainz. Another notable player in the squad is the Tunisian Ellyes Skhiri.
Uwe Rosler’s men count on Rouwen Hennings, the current club’s top scorer with eleven goals, the versatile Erik Thommy, Keenan Karaman and Mathias Zimmermann. All of them are the best option to employ the parking bus before the swift counter attack.
Koln vs Duesseldorf Prediction
Both teams aim for better result than last week and this match seems to be a good opportunity for both. The home side has to be able to protect the lead so that last week’s similar mistake shall not happen any longer, whereas the visitor’s side needs to optimise their finishing touch in order not to waste such chances they had in previous game. Considering their form lately, another draw result seems more likely for them.
Being the host does give an advantage for Koln, though not significant, to be the favourite. They are backed to win at 1.77. The draw result is at 3.80, while Duesseldorf are only priced to win at 4.45.
