- Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa is confident that the on-form goal-scoring Kenyan striker Michael Olunga can power the Harambee Stars to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Olunga, who has netted in the last four matches, has been in sensational form for Kashiwa Reysol and now tops the J1 League scorers’ chart.
The former Thika United who found the back of the net in the latest outing against Nagoya Grampus on August 1, saw him score his ninth goal of the season and Mwendwa believes he will be sensational in stars 2022 Qatar journey.
“The Gods of goals stay with you Michael (Olunga), Qatar is a possibility,” Mwendwa said in a tweet.
The loved Kenyan star, who has helped his side to a fourth victory in five matches, dedicated the win to his teammates.
“At the end of the day when I score it is teamwork,” Olunga said.
“Of course, I scored the winning goal but it was teamwork and especially we have to give credit to our defense, they were really solid at the back, they absorbed pressure from the first minute and wish to thank all the players for sacrificing and making us win four matches in a row,” the Kenyan forward explained.
With his form in the J1 League, Mwendwa believes Olunga who has forged a close relationship with Kashiwa Reysol fans, will be a crucial figure as stars journey to the prestigious world event in Qatar.
