Inter Milan vs Torino
Preview and Prediction
Torino’s current position is not exactly safe yet from the relegation threat. They are sitting on the fifteenth of the table with 34 points or seven-point gap from the red zone. There are still seven games left and anything can still possible. If they lose points again, Andrea Belotti and Co’s campaign can be in danger as they could slip to the edge of the pit. This Monday Il Toro have to take to Inter Milan, which still needs points for securing the Champions League spot. Antonio Conte’s men are now sloping to the fourth in the standings.
The teams’ previous matches
La Beniamata stumbled again in the midweek when they travelled to Verona. They were held in a 2-2 draw in a thrilling outing. The host took the lead at the early first half through the Serbian international Darko Lazovic. At the second half, Antonio Cadreva equalised and contributed to his team’s second goal which was an own goal of Di Marco. Sadly, Inter’s defense once again failed to close down their opponent attacking side and left the space for Verona’s captain, Miguel Veloso to make it level.
Torino, on the other hand, managed to win 3-1 over Brescia. Yet, they conceded first by Ernesto Torregrossa’s header at the first half. Il Torro made a great response at the second hal. It started by Ales Mateju’s own goal as he wrongly anticipated Simone Verdi’s pass. Then, it was Andrea Belotti’s goal plus Simone Zaza’s strike taking advantage of the deflected ball.
Antonio Conte prefers to opt for 3-5-2 with the transition to 3-4-1-2 lately. He normally accommodates the Danish international Cristian Eriksen for the number 10 role behind the dynamic duo, Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez. However, considering the negative results in the past two games, the former Gli Azzurri boss in Euro 2016 should consider modifying it to 3-4-3 as he did in Chelsea. Eriksen can play wide along with Alexis Sanchez to support Lukaku as the lone striker.
Torino boss, Moreno Longo tends to employ the similar formation 3-4-1-2. Andrea Belotti and Simone Zaza will be the targetmen supported by Simone Verdi behind them. Daniele Baselli is the only player in the squad on the sideline for this upcoming fixture.
Players to watch
Romelu Lukaku is still the main frontman this season along with Lautaro Martinez. Yet, the Argentine’s form after the restart has been rather unimpressive. He has only contributed one goal and one assist since then, which is worse than Lukaku who has bagged three goals in the same period. He is expected to show his best again.
In Torino, the top performers in the squad are surely the captain Andrea Belotti with his fourteen goals and two assists, Alex Belengeuer plus Simone Verdi. Another notable to watch is the former Sassuolo, Juventus and Valencia man, Simone Zaza.
Inter vs Torino Prediction
Romelu Lukaku and Co need to regain his confidence quickly and snatch three points to secure the Champions League. They are now already edging to the fourth. Once they slip again, AS Roma, Napoli or even AC Milan can take over their position. This circumstance, however, should be an advantage for the visitor. Inter’s defensive frailties can be exposed and Il Torro could steal important points for their safety. The game is likely to end with Inter’s narrow win.
Nerazzurri is still considered as the favourite. They are backed to win at 1.42, whereas Torino is in the win market at 6.90. The odds for the draw result are at the value of 4.70.
