Nicholas Munyoti who is the head coach of Kakamega Homeboyz was named the January Fidelity Insurance Coach of the Month on Tuesday.
The award is the first accolade which the Homeboyz coach has received in his coaching career. The former AFC Leopard Midfielder took home a sum of Sh75, 000 with a personalized trophy for his achievement.
The other contestant of the award was also the Gor Mahia coach Steven Polack. The competition was solemnly decided by the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya.
“My appreciation also goes to the players, management and sponsors for working tirelessly and ensuring that we win our games. We are prepared to go all the way and win this league even though our motto remains taking one game at a time,” said the jubilant Muyoti during the event.
The month of January went good for the Kakamega based club; Homeboyz won all their four matches and score 9 goals. They smashed Kisumu All Stars 4-0, Zoo Kericho 1-0. Gor Mahia 2-1and also a triumphant 2-1 win against Kariobangi Sharks.
Meanwhile, the Homeboyz coach still holds that their main focus is on winning the league title for the first time.
“Our target remains winning the league and we really believe it can happen. All the teams in the top four or five have a chance and it’s only going to depend on who has the best run in. But I’d love to break Gor Mahia’s dominance and give the top division some excitement. The league is not interesting at all when one team wins every season,” said Muyoti.
Kakamega Homeboyz is currently holding the third position on the league with 41 points. They are 4 points behind Ingwe.
