Preview and Prediction
The Blues’ current position in the top four is not safe yet as their rivals could push them away anytime, including this midweek as they are travelling to Anfield while Manchester United are only hosting West Ham. Frank Lampard’s side needs to seal three points to keep their current position in the standings. Luckily, The Reds’ form has been anticlimactic after securing their 19th title of Premier League.
The teams’ previous matches
The Reds suffered a loss while taking on Arsenal on the road. They were beaten 1-2 after taking the lead first through Sadio Mane. Unfortunately, two unlikely consecutive blunders by Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson led to Alexandre Lacazette’s and Reiss Nelson’s goal. It has been their second defeat since the restart.
Meanwhile, Olivier Giroud and Co managed to progress to the FA Cup final after thumping Manchester United 3-1 in the semi final last weekend. They succeeded in dominating the game and scoring three times from the Frenchman Giroud, Mason Mount and Antonio Rudinger two of which were preceded by David de Gea’s blunders, before conceding through Bruno Fernandes’ penalty.
Jurgen Klopp has always been in favour of 4-3-3. Mo Salah, Firmino and Sadio Mane have been the top frontmen these past two seasons. However, their starting IX will be incomplete as Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, James Milner and the captain Jordan Henderson have to sit out for this fixture. Joe Gomez, Naby Keita plus Adam Lallana might be taking over their posts.
His counterpart, Frank Lampard, prefers 4-3-3 with the transition to 3-4-2-1 when necessary. Olivier Giroud is likely to be back in the starting X with Christian Pulisic and Willian. On their injury table, N’Golo Kante is still there with Billy Gilmour and Fikayo Tomori. Mateo Kovacic or Robin Loftus-Creek might fill in his position in the midfield.
Players to watch
In Liverpool, Mo Salah is still the top performer of the team with nineteen goals and nine assists followed by Sadio Mane. Another notable one which might be given a chance in the starting line up is the youngster Curtis Jones, who has bagged one goal already.
The Blues’ stable form lately has been inevitably because of the constant form of Olivier Giroud while the main forward Tammy Abraham’s is degrading. The French International has scored six goals. Another key figure in Chelsea is the American winger, Christian Pulisic.
Liverpool vs Chelsea Prediction
The Reds’ drop off lately might be an advantage for Willian and Co which is aiming for three points here. However, since this is Liverpool’s final game at home this season, they probably will not let their opponent to win the match. Thus, both sides might eventually only pick up one point, which means that Chelsea will have to fight for UCL spot till the end.
This match is expected to be even. Yet, the visitor is backed to win lower at 3.60 whereas Virgil Van Dijk and Co are priced to win at 2.05. The odds for the draw result are at 3.70.
