Preview and Prediction
The Blades’ campaign this season has been impressive. They are currently sitting on the seventh of the table and competing for one spot in Europa League after just being promoted to the top flight. Unfortunately, the outbreak ruined their moment and they have not been able to snatch three points after the restart. This midweek fixture will be even harder than the previous ones as Chris Wilder’s men have to travel to Old Trafford.
Both teams’ latest news
The Red Devils made their return by stealing one point in their visit to North London. They held Mourinho’s Spurs in a 1-1 draw. David de Gea and Co were one goal behind as Steve Bergwijn bagged an opener at the first half before Bruno Fernandes saved them by his unstoppable penalty. Previously, they had a number of chances but Hugo Lloris played well and denied them.
Sheffield United blew their opportunity to get closer to the top five after losing against Newcastle United on the road. They were crushed 0-3 after John Egan was sent off. Allan Saint-Maximin, Matt Richie and Joelinton scored the winning goals, two of which were preceded by their men’s blunders.
The return of Paul Pogba would surely be an advantage for Solksjaer to have more options in the midfield. He is likely to try to put him in the starting IX along with Bruno Fernandes in 4-3-1-2 or in 4-2-2-2 formation. Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford will definitely be the main forward with Mason Greenwood plus Odion Ighalo as the back up.
Chris Wilder, on the other hand, might consider switching his 3-5-2 to 5-3-2 formation to focus more on the defence since their opponent side has speedy strikers and creative midfielders. The absence of Dean Henderson due to his loan status from Manchester United has already put him in difficulty. What is worse, several key figures will be ruled out because of the injury and suspension such as Jack O’Connell, David McGoldrick and John Egan.
Players to watch
Since his arrival in Old Trafford, the Portuguese international, Bruno Fernandes has instantly become the key players in the squad. He is seemingly the missing link in Ole Solksjaer’s tactics, especially after Pogba’s long absence. The number 10 fits him best. Another notable one to watch is the right wing back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
In Sheffield United, the Frenchman Lys Mousset might not be the top performers in the team yet. However, his contribution in the attack is inevitably the best with five goals and four assists so far. Another key figure in the squad is the Scottish John Fleck.
Man.United vs Sheffield United Prediction
There is no better time than this midweek for Solskjaer’s men to seal a win after the restart. They are in progress to the peak form and barely have any names on the sideline except Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones, which can be easily covered by the others. It is certainly no contest for the host. John Fleck and Co’s nightmare still endures.
The Red Devils are absolutely the clear favourite. They are backed to win at 1.43. The draw result is at 4.50, while the Sheffield’s win market is much lower at 9.00.
