Mario Balotelli’s controversial stint in the Serie A continued on Sunday, January 19, after being red carded for insulting the referee.

Balotelli had just come on as a substitute in place of Alfredo Donnarumma as his side, Brescia, took on Cagliari in a league tie.

However, the Italian striker did not last long on the pitch as he was sent off just seven minutes after his introduction.

The former Man City hitman was handed marching orders after picking a second yellow for insulting the referee moments after being booked for a clumsy challenge on an opponent.

The day had started on rather disappointing note for Balotelli as he had failed to make the matchday squad through illness.

He has since shrugged off his critics following the incident, posting on Instagram: “You can judge me as you wish.”

Balotelli made a switch to the Serie A from France, but has endured a tough start to life in Italy.
