– Samatta was aigned for £10m from Belgian side Genk
– The forward already has 10 goals in all competitions this season
– He is the first Tanzanian in the Premier League, ever
Twitter was on fire on Tuesday, January 21, after Aston Villa confirmed the signing of Mbwana Samatta from Belgian outfit Genk.
The 27-year-old signed a four-and-half-year deal and would be eligible to play subject to a work permit and international clearance being granted.

Samatta’s move will be largely welcome in Birmingham as Aston Villa are in dire need of attacking options after their striker Wesley was ruled out for the season after sustaining knee ligament injuries.
Villa manager Dean Smith was equally excited about the new signing and is wary of Samatta’s abilities in front of goal.
“He has scored goals throughout his career and I’m looking forward to working with him,” he said.
Aston Villa face Watford on Tuesday in what promises to be a relegation thriller but the game has unfortunately come too soon for the Tanzanian.
For Genk, Samatta has scored 10 goals in all competitions this season including a goal against Liverpool in the Champions League.
The official announcement sparked celebration from East Africa as Kenyans and Tanzanians expressed delight as one of their own was set to represent in the lucrative Premier League.
Interestingly, celebrations at some point morphed into a tussle for Samatta’s heritage as sections of Kenyans seemed to suggest the striker had roots here in the 254.
