Preview and Prediction
Napoli and Roma are currently on the Europa League zone. The latter is on the fifth with 48 points while the former is below them with three points behind. Their ambition to qualify to the Champions League might be close to the end as there are still twelve points margin with Atalanta on the fourth. Considering their great form so far, it is rather unlikely to chase them. Thus, securing Europa League spot is the most reasonable one, especially for Roma since Napoli has done it via Coppa Italia path.
Both teams’ previous matches:
Gattuso’s men had a disappointing defeat while travelling to Bergamo. Instead of playing offensive as usual, they chose a rather pragmatic approach by relying on a counter attack at the first half. The host bombarded and could score twice by Mario Pasalic and Robin Gosens. Lorenzo Insigne and Co came out and attacked more at the second half but failed to find the back of the net.
Il Giallorossi had the same exact negative result. They were stunned by Udinese and lost 0-2 at home. Two assists from Rodrigo de Paul gave chances to Kevin Lasagna and Ilija Nestorovski to bag a goal each. It was Roma’s second consecutive defeats since the lockdown.
Gennare Gattusso always opts for 4-3-3 and managed to bring back a more offensive tactics after a rather pragmatic one under Carlo Ancellotti in 4-4-2. The former AC Milan star and boss often rotates the squad, especially at the front. Lorenzo Insigne, Dries Mertens and Arkadiusz Milik are the main forward.
Paulo Fonseca is a fan of offensive football, something which is traditionally against the Italians. He often opts for 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 occasionally. Edin Dzeko is his main scorer while the one who plays wide can be Justin Kluivert, Cengiz Under, Carles Perez and Henrikh Mikhitariyan. Some names will be sideline due to the injury such as Nicola Zaniolo, Juan Jesus and Gianluca Mancini.
Players to watch
Il Partenopei’s top performers this season are Lorenzo Insigne, Fabian Ruiz and the Polish international Arkadiuz Milik who is also the current top scorer of the team with 10 goals. Another key man to watch is the wing back Giovanni De Lorenzo with two goals and three assists.
The former Manchester City man, Edin Dzeko, is the key figure of the team. He has scored fourteen goals and provided four assists. Some other notable names to watch are his Balkan comrade Alexander Kolarov, Lorenzo Pellegrini and the Manchester United loanee Chris Smalling.
Napoli vs Roma Prediction
It is expected to be a tight game but the pressure to win will be bigger on the visitor’s side as their current position is not safe yet. Edin Dzeko and Co still have to avoid AC Milan and Verona which are only five and six points away, beside Napoli. Considering both form lately, a draw seems to be a fair result.
There is no clear favourite in this fixture. The host is projected to win at 2.07. The draw result is at 3.60 and Paulo Fonseca’s men are only priced to win at 3.50.
