Preview and Prediction
Los Rojiblancos’ form after the restart has not shown any improvement yet. They failed to win again last week. Consequently, they have to be outside the top four in the standings. It is quite a downturn in Diego Simeone’s reign. Therefore, they need to pick up three points in the next fixture against the mid table team, Osasuna. Otherwise, Champions League spot will possibly be out of reach.
Both teams’ previous matches:
Osasuna had a relatively satisfactory result last week. They held Real Sociedad in a 1-1 draw on the road. The former Atletico Madrid man, Adrian Lopez, gave them the lead by his penalty. Yet, the host could reply at the second half as Mikel Ozaryabal converted William Jose’s pass into an equaliser.
Saul Niguez and Co had the same result last week when visiting Bilbao. They were one goal behind as Iker Muniain’s strike found the back of the net. Fortunately, Diego Costa, who barely scores this season, bagged a goal at the right time after taking advantage of Koke’s through ball.
The former Real Sociedad’s boss, Jagoba Arrasette is likely to employ 5-3-2 again as he did last week to prevent their opponent from penetrating the penalty box. Since their top scorer, Chimy Avila is still ruled out, Adrian Lopez will be opted for this match once more to face his former club, along with Ruben Garcia as the duo front men.
Diego Simeone has always been in favour of 4-4-2 formation. Alvaro Morata is likely back on starting IX accompanied by Joao Felix or Angel Correa at the front. Luckily, only Vitolo will miss the game due to his injury.
Players to watch
The absence of Chimy Avila might let the other names to shine. Ruben Garcia and Roberto Torres are the other key figures available at the moment. Both are the next top performers of Osasuna this season. Another notable one to watch is the defender Pervis Estupinan and David Garcia.
Los Choconeros, on the other hand, will still be relying on Saul Niguez, Thomas Partey and Alvaro Morata, who are their key men this season. The former Juventus and Real Madrid forward has scored eight goals plus one assist in La Liga now. Another one to watch is probably the Portuguese wonder Joao Felix and possibly Angel Correa who could provide more pace on the wide area beside Koke or Yannick Carrasco.
Osasuna vs Atletico Prediction
The game is probably more important for Diego Simeone’s side to end the series of draw result in their last three matches, which has cost their position on the table. Not to mention their nearby contenders for UCL spots such as Sevilla, Getafe and Real Sociedad, Atletico’s future continental competition might be determined from their results in the next ten games before they could finally focus on Champions League later.
The punters definitely put Simeone’s men as the clear favourite. They are projected to win at 1.80. The draw result is at 3.00 and Unai Garcia and Co are only priced to win at 5.10.
