- The defending champions, Gor Mahia leads the league with two points ahead of Kakamega Homeboyz. However, Homeboyz has one game in hand.
K’Ogalo dropped out of the top of the league on January 8 and they have been fighting to reclaim their lead. Since then, the competition at the helm of KPL has become tough for Gor Mahia.
Just from their 3-0 victory over Bandari FC, K’Ogalo head coach Steven Polack that it is the moment to take control of the league summit by winning against Sofapaka.
Gor Mahia currently leads the league with 2 points ahead of the dominant Kakamega Homeboyz. However, the Kakamega based football club has one game in hand which they can use to reclaim their lead of the KPL.
Polack believes that his squad is on the right track to tippy-toe to the top of the league. They boast of a goal scoring record of seven goals in just two matches.
“I am glad they are scoring goals. The midfield and the striking force are coordinating well. That is what matters most for us now. We score, defend well and then we improve on our league position.”
“The players fought well and played as a team during last weekend’s match against Bandari and I would love to see that kind of spirit continue until the season ends. That is what is important for me now,” he said.
The Gor Mahia head coach said that they have a long way to go before they even start thinking of how they can defend their title.
“We have 17 games to play before the season ends and so I don’t want the titleholders tag to affect my players. We fight until the last match,” he said.
Despite the fact that K’Ogalo is the defending champions, the fight for the league title is never easy because the Kakamega side is not going the let their rare opportunity flip off their hands.
