Preview and Prediction
The defending Champions of La Liga, Real Madrid, begins their campaign to retain the title this weekend, instead of last week due to their late Champions League fixture. They will be meeting Real Sociedad on the road. The Basque side have just lost their key man last season who ironically might be facing them now. They are not in their ideal best yet as well. This, in fact, could be the perfect time for Zidane men to seal three points here.
The teams’ updated news
Sociedad has to let go their top performers in 2019/20 season, Martin Odegaard, as he decided to return to his main team, Real Madrid, which they are facing off this week. The signing of David Silva, despite his age, might be consoling the fans to replace the Norwegian playmaker. Due to this pandemic, they barely capture any new faces. In fact, Sociedad sold some of their loanees such as the Argentine goalie who spent a year in Montpellier last season, Geronimo Rulli, to Villareal, Raul Navas to Osasuna and loan Kevin Rodrigues to Eibar.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, has been very confident in their loanees who return to Bernabeu this season. However, not all of them seem to have secured their place in the current squad. Some well-known names are staying as apart of Zidane’s plan such as Martin Odegaard, Sergio Reguilon and Alvaro Odriozola while some others are loaned again such as Take Kubo, Jose Vallejo, Brahim Diaz and Reiner. In addition, Los Blancos also released James Rodriguez on a free transfer plus sold Achraf Hakimi to Inter, Oscar Rodriguez to Sevilla and Javi Sanchez to Valladolid.
Imanol Alguacil has been in favour of 4-3-3 formation with the transition to 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-4-1. The young Swede Alexander Isak might still be one of the front three beside Mikel Oyarzabal and Portu. Unfortunately, there is a long list of injured figures, which also include David Silva, the captain Asier Illaramendi, the right back Jose Zaldua and their supposedly main scorer William Jose.
Zinedine Zidane has always been sticking to his favourite 4-3-3 which can be flexible sometimes with the transformation to 4-3-2-1. Karim Benzema is still the main forward with Brasilian duo, Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior. Yet, they are the only possible options left on the front as their attacking line is in crisis. Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Gareth Bale, Marco Asencio, Lucas Vasquez, Isco and Martin Odegaard miss this match because of the injury.
Players to watch
Without Odegaard anymore in the squad, Alguacil will need to maximise the remaining squad. The likes of Portu and Mikel Ozaryabal should take the vital role alongside the experienced David Silva. Another possible notable name to watch here is Mikel Merino, who scored in the last outing against Los Blancos.
The French forward Karim Benzema will still be the vital figure upfront. Some other notable key men to watch here are the seniors Toni Kroos, Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajal.
Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid Prediction
Both teams’ squads are limping here with their long list on the injury table. This is surely more depressing for the home side as they will have a hard time to even snatch oen point here. A definite win is more likely for the capital side.
Sergio Ramos and Co are definitely the clear favourite, with their odds to win at 1.70, whereas the host is only projected to win at 4.75. The odds for the draw result are at the value of 3.75.
