Giggs believes United needs to add more depth to their midfield, especially in the central role.

The Red Devils’ best player in that position is Paul Pogba, but the Frenchman is currently out injured.

It is understood the Manchester club is still trying to complete the signing of Sporting Lisbon midfielder, Bruno Fernandes, who fill the role.

However, they are still facing hiccups in getting the deal done, with a fee yet to be agreed between the two clubs.

And speaking on beIN Sports, Giggs said the club should now turn their attention elsewhere if they cannot land Fernandes.

The Wales boss further outlined the lack of depth in United’s current squad set up, insisting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs reinforcements to compete effectively.

“I don’t think he’s got the players. I think he’s probably a couple of players short in actually changing that way of playing,” Giggs told beIN SPORTS.

“That No.10, that focal point and also a midfielder. Whether Pogba’s that, he’s been so inconsistent. Obviously on his day he could be that player. But they’re missing a Grealish or a Maddison, a player like that which can unlock the door,” he added.

The Old Trafford dwellers currently sit fifth on the standings with 34 points, five behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
