Preview and Prediction
AC Milan now finally lands on the on top six of the table and are confident in securing one ticket to Europa League. Yet, the race is not over as they still have the same point as Napoli below them with the same goal aggregate as well, plus there are still four more matches to win. This midweek they will be meeting Sassuolo, another entertaining dark horse in Serie A this season. They are sitting on the eight and aiming to close the eight-point gap with Napoli and Milan for their European dream.
The teams’ previous matches
Sassuolo whose form seems tirelessly energetic and effective in set pieces scenario was apparently stumbled by misfortune. They were held in 1-1 draw against Cagliari on the road despite the fact that their opponent was on the pitch with ten men only. Francesco Caputo took the lead but Joao Pedro equalised by his powerful strike. It’s their unbeaten streak in the last eight games.
Il Rossonero carried on their positive trend after sinking Bologna 5-1 last weekend. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Co began their goal parade by Alexis Saelemakers, followed by Hakan Calhanoglu’s strike preceded by Il Rossoblu’s blunder. Bologna managed to score a lifeline by Tomiyasu. Yet, at the second half, the party resumed as Milan netted three more goals by Ismael Bennacer, Ante Rebic and Davide Calabria.
Roberto De Zerbi, tends to employ 4-2-3-1 formation. He counts on the thirty-two-year old Francesco Caputo supported by Domenico Berardi and Jeremie Boga playing wide. Yet, he will not be able to play his best starting IX as Gregorie Defrel is injured along with Pedro Obiang and Fillipo Romagna whereas Gian Marco Ferrari is suspended.
His counterpart, the experienced Stefano Pioli is more confident with 4-4-1-1. Ibrahimovic is still the main targetman supported by Ante Rebic on the left flank, Hakan Calhanoglu as the number ten and the Belgian youngster Alexis Saelemakers. He took over Samuel Castillejo who is still ruled out along with Leo Duarte, Lucas Paqueta and Mateo Musacchio.
Players to watch
Sassuolo’s top performers lately are their top scorer Francesco Caputo with eighteen goals and seven assists plus Domenico Berardi who has bagged thirteen goals and provided seven assists. Another notable key man to watch is Jeremie Boga who excels his acceleration.
In Milan, the Croatian international Ante Rebic is the one who deserves to share the spotlight with Ibrahimovic. He has netted eleven goals and made two assists. His ability to play wide and open space for his team mates in the opponent’s defensive line, plus Ibrahimovic’s guidance, have been useful to help Milan score more. Another important figure in Milan’s revival this season is the Algerian midfielder Ismael Bennacer.
Sassuolo vs Milan Prediction
This is one of the most decisive matches for both teams. A win for the home side will certainly close the gap to five points, which could lead them closer to the continental competitions next season. Yet, for the visitor, three points could keep them away from their contenders. However, in this expectedly tight clash, neither is likely to seal a win.
As the clear favourite, Stefano Pioli’s men are in the win market at 2.00 whereas Domenico Berardi and Co are backed to win at 3.50. The odds for a draw result are only at 3.90.
