NAIROBI– The Special Olympics Kenya female team is eyeing a gold medal ahead of the upcoming inaugural world Special Olympics Unified Football Cup scheduled for next week in Chicago, USA .
Speaking on Thursday morning during the flagging off of the team, head coach of the Kilifi bound female team Haro Nicholas Kai said they are ready for the competition and are not afraid of their opponents especially in the group stages.
“We will work so hard to ensure we bring the trophy back to Kenya. We also have in sight the gold medal ahead that we are confident of winning as well,” Kai Haro said.
Adding that, “The preparations for the tournament have been good and a boost to our confidence. We are ready for any of the big teams.”
The team that comprises of ten players will depart on Sunday evening ahead of their first match slated for Tuesday 17th July 2018.
The Special Olympics Kenya team will kick off the games against SO Brazil on 17th before meeting SO USA Illinois and winding up the group A matches against SO Slovakia on July 21st and it’s the only female team representing Africa in the tournament.
Team Kenya captain Mwanajuma Kitsao also exuded confidence ahead of the tournament, saying they are ready to face the big guns and bring the trophy back home.
“We ave prepared enough in training and are confident to win the trophy. We are happy to be there,” said team Kenya captain Mwanajuma Kitsao.
