The 10, 000 Meters Discovery Road Race Returns to Eldoret Due to Public Demand

The discovery road race returns to Eldoret next month after 4 years. The race which takes place every year was held in Nyahururu as a half Marathon for the past 4 years.

The organizer, David Letting confirmed that the race has been scheduled to take place in the athletics ‘mad city’ because of public demand.

“We had to succumb to public pressure and bring back the race to Eldoret,” said Letting.

“Being an Olympic year, the race provides a great opportunity for distance runners, especially those angling for the 10,000m slots, to test their speed and endurance,” added Letting.

The race was shifted to Nyahururu as a tribute to the legendary Samuel Wanjiru. The veteran long-distance runner set the half marathon world records 3 times in his career. However, he died on 15th May 2011 after falling off a balcony at his home in Nyahururu.

“This is a good move for runners as Rosa and Associati and Nike will be issuing good prizes for top runners to motivate them ahead of Olympic Games,” added Letting.

The race is going to give a chance to many potential athletes who would not have made a chance to travel to Nyahururu and participate in the road race. Having the event in Eldoret, the home of champions will realize more talents that would not have been easily noticed.

Recently, Eliud Kipchoge who is also an Eldoret-based athlete surprised the world by running 42km under 2 hours in the INEOS challenge which took place in Vienna, Austria. We expect to see the best talents to represent Kenya in the Olympic Games.
