- Tokyo 2020 Olympic Organizers have agreed to postpone the Olympic games for another one year due to coronavirus pandemic. The Olympic Games are due on 24 July.
According to Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that they have agreed to postpone the Olympic Games.
“I proposed to postpone for about a year and [IOC] president Thomas Bach responded with 100% agreement,” Abe said.
The postponement of the Olympic Games will also apply to the Tokyo Paralympic Games which were to take place this year.
Prime Minister Abe added: “This will make it possible for athletes to play in the best condition, and will make the event a safe and secure one for spectators.”
As the International Olympic Committee agreed on the postponement, the British Olympic Association (BOA) was discussing the matter today. Hugh Robertson had confirmed that entire Great Britain was not likely to send a team to Tokyo Olympic Games this summer.
As the pandemic continues to put on hold many events in the world, it also threatens to affect the economy of many nations. It has hindered economic growth as events such as the Olympics are not going to take place and give revenue.
