Preview and Prediction
Il Giallorossi’s campaign in Serie A this season is still not over yet. They have not secured one place in Europa League despite having four and five point gap from their nearby contender, AC Milan and Napoli. This week will be the vital one to determine which team finally get the last ticket of continental competition next season. Edin Dzeko and Co will be travelling to Turin this week to claim such spot. Only a win over Torino, which has been safe from the relegation threat, would help them claim it sooner.
The teams’ previous matches
Il Torro snatched the crucial point last weekend while meeting SPAL 2013 on the road. They managed to hold the host in 1-1 draw. Simone Verdi gave them the necessary lead before Marco D’Alessandro equalised on the 79th minute. Such one point was enough to keep them on the top flight next season.
Meanwhile, AS Roma’s positive trend still endures. Last weekend, they thumped Fiorentina 2-1. Jordan Veretrout’s penalty brace marked their winning goals despite the fact that La Viola was able to level them through Nikola Milenkovic’s header before conceding the second goal. It was their fifth victory in their unbeaten run of the last six games.
Torino boss, Moreno Longo tends to employ the 3-4-1-2 formation. Andrea Belotti and Simone Zaza will be the targetmen supported by Simone Verdi behind them. Unfortunately, Daniele Baselli and Armando Izzo will have to be sidelined from the pitch.
His counterpart, Paulo Fonseca has been deploying the similar formation as their upcoming opponent with Edin Dzeko as the targetman. Yet, Lorenzo Pellegrini is ruled out along with some other names such as Davide Santon, Juan Jesus and Roger Ibanez. Nicola Zaniolo, Cengiz Under or Justin Kluivert can be opted to take over Pellegrini’s position as the attacking midfielder for the starting IX.
Players to watch
Torino’s captain Andrea Belotti is still the highest-rated key man in the squad with sixteen goals and three assists. Some other notable figures on the pitch are Alex Belengeuer, Tomas Rincon and Simone Verdi, who has scored two goals and provided five assists.
In Roma, the former Manchester United man and Arsenal loanee, Henrikh Mikhitariyan has been one of the top performers recently. He has netted nine goals and made four assists. Another key figure of the team beside the captain Dzeko is another Premier League loanee, Chris Smalling.
Torino vs Roma Prediction
Despite playing away, Paulo Fonseca’s men are likely to continue their impressive form. Torino’s lack of fortune and support upfront for Bellotti has shown the home side’s weakness which is really in need of improvement next season. Thus, a narrow win for the visitors is more possible than even a draw.
AS Roma is surely considered as the favourite, among the punters. They are backed to win at 11/17, whereas Torino is in the win market at 9/2. The odds for the draw result are at the value of 17/5.
