Preview and Prediction
This clash is the most decisive match on a title race this season. Any results would affect the reigning champions’s fate and the title race itself. Udinese is the last wall which stands in their way. Unfortunately, they have a battle on their own, avoiding relegation threat as Luca Gatti’s men are still on the 16th of the table with only five point gap from the red zone. No wonder that they will absolutely strive to get points here at their home turf.
The teams’ previous matches
Udinese suffered another loss last weekend while travelling to Napoli. It was a hard-fought match and they managed to score a screamer by Rodrigo De Paul. Yet, the host could level them as Arkadiusz Milik poked the ball into the net from Fabian Ruiz’s pass. Their nightmare eventually came at the stoppage time as Inter loanee Matteo Politano netted his first goal for Il Partenopei from a long range strike.
The Old Lady seems to get back on their winning ways after crushing their contender before the lockdown, Lazio by two goals to one. Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a brace before Ciro Immobile scored a lifeline through his penalty. Juventus now only needs four points to seal the title.
Luca Gatti tends to employ 3-5-2 formation. Yet, if he intends to get points here, he needs to modify it to 4-3-2-1 for example. Kevin Lasagna who excels at pace and accuracy in shots will be the lone striker while behind him Rodrigo De Paul and Seko Fofana will be pressing Juventus defensive midfielders to get the ball forward. In the midfield, the absence of Rolando Mandragora can be covered by Wallace. He will be the first layer of their defense alongside Ken Sema and Mato Jajalo. At the defense line, William Troost-Ekong is accompanied by Bram Nuytinck at the centre whereas Jens Stryger Larssen and Samir will be on both flanks. Furthermore, they also need to be cautious not to let themselves fall into the ‘handball trap’ which seems to be well-applied while facing off Atalanta and Lazio, which literally saved them from losing points.
Maurizio Sarri often opts for 4-3-3 with the transition to 4-3-1-2. Cristiano Ronaldo surely is the main scorer with the support of Paulo Dybala and Douglas Costa or Federico Bernardeschi for playing wide. Alternatively, Dybala can be given the similar role to Messi, which makes it more unpredictable for the opponents. Moreover, Juventus seems to know the trick or develop certain technique to force their opponent to tackle or make silly mistakes like handball as such, which eventually lead to penalties for them.
Players to watch
Udinese has been relying on Kevin Lasagna this season to score. This speedy striker has bagged ten goals in Serie A. Some other notable players to watch are the Argentines, Rodrigo de Paul and the goalie Juan Musso, plus the Ivorian Seko Fofana.
In Juventus, Cristiano Ronaldo is surely the top performers. His contribution to the team is as good as expected with thirty goals and five assists. Another key figure of them lately is Paulo Dybala who has netted eleven goals and provided six assists.
Udinese vs Juventus Prediction
Both sides need to pick up points in Dacia Area this midweek. However, the home side’s negative trend lately will make them even harder to secure even one point if they do not consider the tactical change as suggested above. All in all, Maurizio Sarri’s men will clinch three points, perhaps with another help from ‘a penalty’.
The game obviously belongs to the visitor. They are priced to win higher at 1.65 whereas Kevin Lasagna and Co are in the win market at 5.45. The odds for a draw result are only at 4.00.
