Preview and Prediction
The finish line in the Premier League this season is finally on the sight. The fate of some teams next season will be determined from the results on this matchday 38, whether qualifying to Champions League or staying on the top flight. One of them happens to be Aston Villa, which still needs another three points to avoid the relegation pit. This weekend they will be taking on West Ham United which just managed to snatch the last point for safety in the midweek. Such is an intriguing task as The Hammers will certainly never let the visitors get away from their home turf with three points on hand.
The teams’ previous match
Mark Noble and Co had a big relieving result in the midweek while travelling to Old Trafford. They were able to hold the host in a 1-1 draw. Michael Antonio took the lead through his penalty before Mason Greenwood equalised at the second half. One point in Manchester is enough to keep them in the first tier next season.
The Villans also earned a big win while hosting Arsenal in the midweek. The only goal of the game was scored by Trezeguet. They should have been able to extend the lead, if Jack Grealish and Co had not wasted many decent chances. Such victory did bump up their position to the borderline of safety, on the 17th in the standings.
David Moyes might still employ his favourite 4-2-3-1 formation with Michael Antonio or Sebastian Haller as the targetman while on both wings; Felipe Andeson and Andrey Yarmolenko could be picked for the starting IX for resting Pablo Fornals plus putting Jarred Bowen, Ryan Fredericks, Aaron Cresswell and Robert Snodgrass on the sideline due to their injury. Meanwhile, the number ten role seems to fit, Manuel Lanzini best.
His counterpart, Dean Smith, will still be in clinging on 4-3-3 formation. He counts on Jack Grealish to provide more creativity in their attack and to support Trezeguet upfront. Unfortunately, a number of players are ruled out due to their injury, such as the goalie Tom Heaton, the Brazilian striker Wesley, Ahmed El Mohamady, Bjorn Engels and Neil Taylor.
Players to watch
The Hammers under Moyes command should be thankful for the impressive form of Michael Antonio lately which contributed well for their safety. He has bagged ten goals and made three assists. Some other notable figures to watch recently are Tomas Soucek and the English youngster Declan Rice.
Meanwhile, in Aston Villa, Jack Grealish is still the key man of the team. The 24-year-old captain has netted seven goals and provided six assists. Some other key men in the squad are the Irish defensive midfielder Conor Hourihane and John McGinn.
West Ham vs Aston Villa Prediction
Dean Smith’s men have no other choice but to steal three points in this match so that they do not have to worry about their contenders’ result. If the Villans only snatch one point, their future in Premier League will be depending on Watford’s and Bournemouth’s games. Nevertheless, a draw seems to be the most reasonable one considering West Ham’s positive form lately as well.
This fixture is expected to be a tight one although the home side has no more objectives left. They are backed to win at 3.25, whereas Aston Villa’s odds to win are at 2.25. Meanwhile, the draw result is at the value of 3.55.
