Preview and Prediction
The five-time title holder, Sevilla, is aiming for their sixth one this year and their campaign has been positive so far. On the other hand, Wolves has different objective. Winning this year’s Europa League is their only ticket to be in continental competition next season after their failure to seal one spot this season. They only managed to finish on the seventh in the standings. In fact, it could also bump up their level of competition to be among the European elites. Yet, before reaching there, both have to square off in Duisburg this week to secure one place in the semifinal.
The teams’ previous matches
Wolves finally progressed to the quarterfinal last week after snatching a 1-0 win over Olympiakos by Raul Jimenez’s penalty. The game was even more challenging than expected as the Greek side had several shots on goals and targets. Luckily, their finish was poor.
Sevilla had more convincing result in the round of 16 last week. They crushed AS Roma 2-0. Sergio Reguilon’s strike and Yousseuf El-Neysri’s tap into the back of the net after the deflection from Pau Lopez, were the one which made the difference.
Nuno Santo tends to stick to his favourite 3-4-2-1 with the transition to 3-4-1-2, 3-4-3 and 3-5-2. The Mexican sensation Raul Jimenez is the main front man along with Diogo Jota and the versatile winger Adama Traore or the former Olympiakos man, Daniel Podence. The only name on the injury table at the moment is the wing back Johnny.
His counterpart, Julen Lopetegui has always been opting for 4-3-3 formation. Lucas Ocampos is the key man upfront, accompanied by Suso and Luuk de Jong or Youssef En-Naysri and Munir El-Haddadi. However, the former Spain national team and Real Madrid boss will not be able to play his best starting IX as the main goalie Tomas Vaclik is still injured alongside Nemanja Guldelj.
Players to watch
In Wolves, the former La Masia student, Adama Traore has been the key figure of the season. In European fixtures, he has scored two goals. Some other notable ones are their Mexican sensation, Raul Jimenez with four goals and three assists, Diego Jota and the wingback Matt Doherty.
Meanwhile, Lucas Ocampos is definitely Sevilla’s current top performers along with Ever Banega, Joan Jordan and the Real Madrid loanee, Sergio Reguilon, who also scored in the previous game. They have been apart of their regular starting line up this season.
Wolves vs Sevilla Prediction
Nuno Santo’s men will face off the real challenge here. Their form in the previous match did not meet the fans expectation yet in spite of winning one. Thus, Wolves need to think of certain way to close down and isolate Sevilla’s left flank which has been their stronger side. Lucas Ocampos and Sergio Reguilon who often overlaps to the front will pose a real threat if they are not contained. The match might go to penalties and if it does, the lady luck might be on their side.
This clash is expected to be even. Wolves are backed to win at 3.65 whereas Ever Banega and Co are priced to win at 2.15. The odds for the draw result are at 3.25.
